Fernando Alonso laments over back luck in the Bahrain Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has called the 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix a very unlucky race as he failed to attain competitive results for his team because of a problem in his DRS.
Alonso seemed very much comfortable behind the wheel of his car throughout the practice sessions at the Bahrain International Circuit. Moreover, he performed extremely well in the qualifying and secured third grid slot for the race. However, his DRS stuck
open in the opening laps of the race because of which he had to pit to get his wing fixed. Right in the following lap, the same issue persisted and the Spaniard went to the pits again due to which he lost many positions in the race. Nonetheless, he tried to
make the most out of his car without DRS and managed to score 4 points with his 8th place finish.
It will be important to note that the two-time world champion faced an unfortunate retirement in the Malaysian GP because of which he could not score even a single point and after facing the DRS problem in the fourth round, he has called the two incidents
as his unlucky moments of the season until now.
“It was very difficult,” Alonso said. “We stopped two times in two laps so you are at the back of group and with no DRS to use to pass so race becomes very, very difficult. But it's the way it went today. A very, very unlucky race again, so in four races
we've had two very unlucky moments.”
“I informed the team that we'd finished the rear tyres because I thought at that stage that it was rear tyres had gone completely, but they told me 'No, the tyres are OK it's just the DRS so we need to pit in this lap',” he added.
Besides, he stated that he could have secured second podium finish if he hadn’t faced the DRS issue. Nevertheless, he asserted that he is not feeling upset over his result in the last race and is positively looking forward to perform well in the season ahead
to make his mark stronger in the championship.
