Fernando Alonso looks ahead to the Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1
Canadian Grand Prix will be a testing race for Fernando Alonso.
Alonso will feel confident going into the Canadian GP even though he finished third in the recently concluded Monaco Grand Prix.
He said that the team knew that the Monaco GP race is going to be a tough ordeal, but the race went well and he was able to score vital points which allowed him to now be the leader of the Drivers’ Championship bid. The start was the key it was great the
way he managed to overtake some of the cars into a good position to move into the top five.
He said that after the safety Car there was a time when he wanted to make his move to the top but overtaking is really hard at Monaco.
“We knew it would be a very complicated race and I am happy I managed to bring home a useful number of points. I got a great start and managed a few passing moves in the early stages and later, after the Safety Car, there was a tough fight with Maldonado:
when I saw he'd gone off the track I breathed a sigh, because he had been really close to me for quite a few laps up until then,” he added.
Ferrari’s new update package for the F2012 has worked really well for the team and they are looking stronger and stronger with each passing race. Although the results have only been coming through Alonso while Felipe Massa continues to disappoint but it
is evident that the car has improved.
The season championship is still very much open with Alonso leading and Sebastian Vettel a close second. It will be imperative for Alonso to do well in Canada.
Mercedes have looked good and Nico Rosberg finished second at the Monaco circuit. He said that the Mercedes car was the fastest on the track. Even though Michael Schumacher poor luck continued at Monaco he is still considered to be one of the favourites
in Canada as he had his best finish at the track since his comeback.
Alonso have so far drove well, and exceeded the expectation from a complex Ferrari car, while his teammate Felipe Massa continues to disappoint. Ferrari will need both their driver firing in Canada to make a fist of things and fare better than they have
done in the season so far. If both the drivers start to finish in the top ten consistently Ferrari can actually look to be in contention for the Constructors’ title.
It will be an interesting battle in Canada where the track is really fast and there is hardly a corner where a driver would need to go slower than 100 miles/hour. Two DRS zones will be available to the drivers with ample opportunity for drivers to overtake
each other.
The competition is still fierce as the season has seen six different winners from the six Grands Prix so far in the season. Red Bull, Lotus, McLaren and Ferrari are all gunning for the highest accolades of the game. Whichever team that is the most consistent
will be able to hold on to the title.
