Fernando Alonso not disappointed with Hungarian Grand Prix qualifiers – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that he is not unhappy with his performance in the qualifying round of the 2011 Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix.
Despite his fifth place finish in qualifiers at the Hungaroring race circuit on Saturday, July 30, 2011, he mentioned that he will try his best to show good performance to his viewers during Sunday’s race.
The Spaniard discussed the qualifying round in Budapest and stated that his third place in Qualifiers was possible for him if he had managed a perfect lap time. In addition, he mentioned that the fifth place was not a surprise for him.
Talking to reporters, Alonso said, “Third place was within our grasp and it would have been a great place from which to start the race, but others did better than us, including my team-mate who drove a nice lap: it's important that both our cars are in positions
from which we can fight for a place on the podium.”
The 30-year-old driver further mentioned that he is sure the Budapest race will be open for all drivers, but overtaking will be difficult at the Hungaroring racetrack due to nature of the circuit.
He went on to say, “It's always very difficult to overtake here and I don't think DRS will change that much: maybe a good tow and a gust of wind will be of more use. It will also be important to get the timing of the stops right. I reckon anything could
still happen: it will be a very open race.”
The Maranello-based outfit driver told the media that they are aiming to maintain a good pace during the Hungarian Grand Prix despite their results in the qualifying round. He said that the team needs to do a perfect job at the pitstops in Sunday’s race.
In addition, he stated that they must formulate the right race strategy.
On the other hand, his teammate Felipe Massa said that he is hopeful for the Hungarian Grand Prix. Massa said that they will try their best to perform well at the Hungaroring race circuit.
