Fernando Alonso not eager to become a ‘team boss’ after retirement – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has recently stated that after he retires as a driver from Formula 1, he does not see himself as a team principal for one of the teams.
People like Sir Jackie Stewart and Alain Prost have tried to get their hands on one of the teams in Formula 1 in the past but both of them never got a chance. However, Alonso is not entertained by this idea yet.
“Today I would say no, because what I like is to drive. But it will be hard to leave F1 one day because I've been driving all my life,” he said.
Fernando Alonso is one of the most versatile drivers in Formula 1 as he has driven in all sorts of teams like Minardi, McLaren, Renault and Ferrari. On top of that, he won his two championships with Renault even though they were not an experienced team in
the sport back then.
“I think I will prefer to spend the weekends having fun in a kart rather than doing some other job,” said Alonso.
He believes that an ‘F1 driver’s greatest sacrifice’ is to dedicate his first 30-40 years to racing exclusively. Fernando’s dream team used to be McLaren but since things did not work out between him and the team, he had to leave McLaren after racing for
them for just one season in 2007.
Alonso stated that he might work on race drivers education at his own kart track in Asturias as he believes that supporting a talented young driver is one of his options for his future after his retirement.
Fernando Alonso finished in 2nd place in the drivers’ standings in the 2010 Formula 1 season just 4 points short of the 2010 Formula 1 champion Sebastian Vettel. The Spaniard led the 2010 drivers’ standings until the very last race of the season
but unfortunately, he was unable to score a sufficient amount of points to maintain his lead.
On the other hand, his team was unable to give a good overall constructors’ performance as compared to their rivals mainly because of the fact that Felipe Massa was unable to score good points consistently throughout the season.
The Brazilian driver claims that the main reason for his tribulation in the 2010 Formula 1 season is that the Bridgestones of 2010 did not suit his driving style as a result of which he was unable to score some good points consistently.
Nevertheless, the team is optimistic about its 2011 run as they believe that they have created a very good and balanced car for the upcoming season. Fernando is more eager to win now and this time, he is aiming for nothing less than the title.
