Fernando Alonso not satisfied with his Ferrari at the 2011 Italian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso has recently stated that he is not happy with his car as it is not performing up to his expectations for the 2011 Italian Grand Prix weekend.
He claims that the team might not be able to cope up with its rivals Red Bull Racing and McLaren this weekend at the Italian Grand Prix which is taking place at the legendary Monza circuit.
“Honestly, I think we lack a bit of performance compared to the best, even if there are still the same unknowns relating to Fridays, especially those linked to fuel loads. We have to be realistic: the car is more or less the one we had in Spa, apart from
specific updates to cope with the fact this track requires low aerodynamic downforce,” he said.
Despite the fact this is the team’s home race, Alonso believes that RBR and McLaren are looking much better than Ferrari and even Mercedes GP are looking very strong for this weekend. Michael Schumacher finished in 3rd place in
the timesheets of the second free practice session this past Friday.
Alonso on the other hand finished in 5th place behind his teammate Felipe Massa who finished in 4th place. Sebastian Vettel topped the timesheets of the session while Lewis Hamilton scored the 2nd place.
Therefore, Ferrari have a lot of time to catch up on its rivals.
“I am a very competitive person and I don't like losing. It's true, this year that's happened quite often, but there are still targets that are within our grasp, for example, second place in the drivers' championship: Webber is not that far ahead,” said
Alonso.
The Spaniard is still in the championship mathematically and the only way he can even get close to the current championship leader Sebastian Vettel is if he dominates the rest of the 2011 Formula 1 season and Vettel fails to finish at least a couple of races.
Since there are just seven races left in the 2011 Formula 1 season, therefore Ferrari and McLaren cannot afford losing to RBR at a single venue now.
