Fernando Alonso of Ferrari aiming for a successful 2012 – Formula 1 news
Fernando Alonso of Ferrari has stated that his team needs to maximise their efforts and concentrate more towards the development of 2012 car rather than targeting the runner-up spot for the Spaniard in the 2011 drivers’ championship.
Alonso highlighted that it is really crucial that the Italian squad divert their focus on next season and start reflecting on this season’s issues, and work on collecting data that will assist the team in overcoming the problems encountered this year.
The team had to face some issues in the first half of the season due to which they could not perform to their optimum.
Alonso said, “More important than evaluating new components is the work of checking the correlation between what we see on the race track with what we see from the wind tunnel. This means we can work with confidence through December and January, knowing
that all the data we have in the tunnel is real.”
The Maranello-based team should be more inclined towards targeting their efforts for the development of the 2012 car. The last two races of 2011, especially the practice session should be utilised for testing key components for the 2012 car and gathering
data that can be worked upon to deliver a really competitive car.
“It is much more important to learn for the new car: better to get half a tenth of a second for next year than to be second in this Drivers' championship,” he said.
The Spaniard currently lies in the third place in the drivers’ championship following Jenson Button of McLaren-Mercedes, with a difference of 13 points.
The Maranello-based outfit is thus bent upon using the last two races to make sure Alonso finishes this season at the runner-up spot. The enthusiasm that the team is showing in making this possible and the confidence of the Italian squad in Alonso have both
propelled him to put up his best performance at the season’s last two races.
Let’s see how Alonso performs at the weekend’s race at the Yas Marina Circuit. The 2011 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will be the third race at this Hermann-Tilke built circuit after it was officially inaugurated back in 2009. The Grand Prix in 2009
was won by Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing, which was his 6th win of the career.
The morning session of first free practice will be taking place shortly. Let’s see how the teams perform during the practice session and particularly Alonso.
The race is scheduled to take place on Sunday, November 13, 2011.
