Fernando Alonso of Ferrari looking forward to 2012 Chinese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Chinese Grand Prix will be a testing race for Fernando Alonso.
Alonso will feel confident going into the Chinese after winning the Malaysian Grand Prix banking on pure skill and determination.
He said that the team knew that the Malaysian GP race is going to be a tough ordeal, but the race went well and he was able to win his first race of the season. The start was the key and it was great the way he managed to overtake some of the cars into a
good position to move into the top spot the weather also helped.
Alonso mentioned that he felt he had to defend his position throughout the race as Sergio Perez kept up to him all through the race. The pit stop strategy worked out pretty good. He said that another positive sign was that the car felt much better than it
did during the qualifiers on Saturday and it allowed him to remain on the top.
Alonso though admitted that that car is behind in terms of performance adding that the Sauber was clearly ahead in pace and he struggled to keep Perez at bay. Ferrari are behind in performance from the likes of McLaren, Red Bull, Mercedes and even Lotus.
It is not a big worry because all the teams are very close to each other, and the competitiveness is high which is going to be good for Ferrari.
Alonso have so far drove well to gain a win in the season and exceeded the expectations from a complex Ferrari car, while his teammate Felipe Massa continues to disappoint. Ferrari will need both their drivers firing in China to make a fist of things and
progress better in the season to remain in contention for the Constructors title.
“I'm not expecting any surprises in this race, compared to what we saw in Australia and Malaysia,” Alonso wrote on the Ferrari website. “It's true almost three weeks have gone by, but that does not mean there was enough time to completely turn the car around
in such a short time: we will have a few small updates, but nothing particularly significant and on top of that, we can expect that the other teams will also bring some new parts.”
“Therefore, we won't change our approach to this Grand Prix: to get a good result, we will need to concentrate on ourselves, trying to be perfect and to exploit every possibility that might come our way over the weekend,” he added further.
He added that it will still be a big challenge for him as the Shanghai International circuit is very demanding for the cars and the rubber compounds. Tyre management is going play a vital role to be successful there.
