Fernando Alonso plays with Massa once again
Formula One is a strange sport, where things change faster than expected. It is all about speed, determination, and of course, at the end of the day it is about the points. The battle of scores has once again changed dramatically. This time the Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso wants his teammate, Felipe Massa to win the Brazilian Grand Prix, which could see the former support the latter to bag the third championship of his career.
It was only a couple of months back that the Italian team underwent a lot of criticism as they stopped Massa from bagging a race win at the German Grand Prix. While heading for a 1-2 finish for the team, Massa received a coded message from the team telling that Alonso was faster than he was. Following the message, the driver, who was leading the race, slowed down while his teammate passed by in order to get the second victory of the season.
The incident not only received a lot of criticism from all the teams, but also the German stewards penalised the team with a US $100,000 penalty. However, this did not affect the team at all, as they kept following the same strategy.
Now, with only two more races to go and just 50 points to play for the Spaniard has announced that he will be glad to see his teammate winning the next race. Previously, Massa has been under a lot of pressure from his team as well as his teammate to do whatever goes in their best interest.
Now just a day before leaving for the Brazilian Grand Prix, Alonso talked to the media saying, "I think Felipe is normally very strong here [in Brazil]. I think the best thing for us will be to have Felipe winning the race because he takes 25 points from everybody else. That is the biggest point’s difference this year - from 25 points for winning to 18 for second.”
With his 231 points, the two times world champion currently stands at the top of the tally followed by the Red Bull driver, Mark Webber, who is only 11 points off him. The third place has been occupied by the McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton, who has bagged a total of 210 points so far while Sebastian Vettel, the other Red Bull driver, has 4th place with his 206 points.
While looking at the points’ tally, Alonso believes that if any of these top four drivers bags a victory, winning the championship can become difficult for him. He thinks that if Massa wins both the next races, the title can become certain for him.
At the same time, the next race is very important for Massa as well, for this marks his home race. He admits the fact that the entire season and especially the German Grand Prix has made his fans very annoyed with him, yet he believes that the home crowd will support him and love to see him win.
While talking to the press before heading for the Brazilian round Massa said, "I will do the best I can to win the race for the people. It is also true that even after the race in Germany, when I arrived in Brazil, the people were very nice to me, very fantastic and keen to push me forward. The real people they are great, journalists are much more difficult."
Moreover, the Ferrari team boss, Stefano Domenicali also uttered earlier this week that he wishes to see Massa at the top of his form and putting up his best fight in front of his home crowd.
