Fernando Alonso proclaims Red Bulls the title favourites
The leader of the Drivers’ Championship, Fernando Alonso announced Red Bull Racing to be the favourites for the championship this year.
Past Sunday in Korean saw the Ferrari driver bag the 5th victory of the season which made him the only driver this season to have won so many races. Next to him stands the Red Bull driver Mark Weber who has conquered four arenas this season, and
has been able to stay at the top of the points’ tally for a long while.
Now, the two stand at 1st and 2nd places with Alonso being at the top while Webber has now been slipped a place behind him. However, the Spanish driver still believes that having done so good all through the season and being at the
apex of the charts for so long, makes the Red Bull the favourite of the fans.
Moreover, the Austrian team also has the fastest car of 2010. They have been able to demonstrate great pace all through the season and other than just one or two tracks, the rival teams kept chasing their RB6.
At the same time, the other team driver Sebastian Vettel had also shown great racing skills right from the beginning and had been able to win three races while starting nine from the pole.
Now with only two more races to go, the battle remains still heated. Alonso has taken the crown of the Drivers’ Standings, while Webber stays only 11 points behind him with his 220 points. The other very strong contender of the season is Lewis Hamilton
who is only 21 points adrift the topper followed by Vettel who is 25 points behind Alonso.
With 50 points yet to play for in two more races of the season, the tug still remains equally critical for all the top four drivers. However, the two-time World Champion says that he is not at all doing maths with points now as the season had been so unpredictable
right from the start and still he reckons that anything is possible.
The driver only a little while back talked to the reporters saying that he has all reasons to think Red bull are strong and title favourites. Alonso jokingly exclaimed, "Yes, that's true - and if Red Bull miss their plane to Brazil, that's another way to
be champion."
He further proclaimed, "Red Bull showed us again in Korea that they are stronger than us, and that will be the same in Brazil and Abu Dhabi as well. So what we need is another small step forward to be competitive. We must be on the podium. If someone beats
us now, congratulations - winning or losing will depend on who is faster, on reliability and on luck."
