Fernando Alonso says British Grand Prix will be tough for Ferrari due to hard tyres – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that it will be tough for the team to run on the hard tyres at the upcoming British Grand Prix, which will take place on July 10, 2011.
The Italian tyre manufacturer Pirelli has announced that the hard and soft compounds of the tyres will be used at the Silverstone race weekend. However, Ferrari are not happy with Pirelli’s decision, as they were not able to perform well on these compounds
in the 2011 Spanish Grand Prix.
The team driver said that they will have to face more challenges at the British race weekend, because in the Spanish race, they struggled a lot on hard tyres, but could not lead the strong contenders.
The Spanish added, “Anyway, the tyre choice is the same for everyone and there's no point discussing if the pair of compounds chosen is more suited to one team or another. It's up to the teams to adjust the cars to get the best out of the tyres both in terms
of performance and life.”
Alonso had a disappointing start to the 2011 Formula 1 season, as he was unable to deliver his impressive run on the grid among his rivals. However, he seemed to be improving in his performance since the last couple of races. He finished his Monaco and the
recently held European race on the podium for the team.
Ferrari driver admitted that the new Pirelli tyres were not helpful for him at the start of the season and that it did not provide him a comfortable run on the track.
The two-time world champion discussed the upcoming British race weekend and mentioned that it will be another tough race over there, as the Silverstone circuit has high-speed corners.
The Maranello-based outfit driver went on to say, “We must be realistic and accept that it's not possible that in less than two months - the time past since the Barcelona race - we have closed the gap that was seen at the Catalunya circuit.”
After finishing his race on the second spot in Valencia, Alonso is hoping for another successful race weekend in Silverstone on both hard and soft tyres. Let’s see how he fares.
