Fernando Alonso says Ferrari asked for clarification from FIA for their fans – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that they asked for clarification from FIA over Red Bull Racing driver, Sebastian Vettel’s move in the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix, only because of their fans.
Vettel secured sixth place finish in the epic season finale after facing immense difficulties and successfully won his third consecutive world drivers’ championship title by 3 points from Alonso.
However, a video clip came out after the final race which indicated that the veteran German driver illegally overtook Jean-Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso during the yellow flag as the warning lights were flashing in his cockpit. Eventually, a controversy arose
and the Scarlet team got a lot of emails from its fans from around the world to approach FIA for the necessary enlightenment regarding the issue.
Therefore, the Italian team wrote a private letter to FIA so as to get the required clarification about the matter. Conversely, FIA have deemed Vettel’s pass completely legal.
Meanwhile, the Spaniard has said that they only went to the Federation because their fans insisted too much and they had to give them proper answer. He also said that after the FIA’s response, everything has settled down and they consider the case closed
now.
“There were a lot of video clips on the internet and we knew our fans were asking for an explanation and so it was right for Ferrari to turn to Federation for clarification,” he explained. “We got reply and I think everything has now calmed down. I did not
pay much attention to all uproar this incident caused, but I felt we owed our fans an answer.”
Besides, he said that he is not interested about what the Germans think about him and is very much happy with the overall love and support of his fans.
“Frankly, I'm not that interested in what opinion is of me in Germany or elsewhere,” he added. “What I know is that people who see me in the streets hug me and call me gladiator or samurai.”
It will be thrilling to see how the two-time world champion performs in the next season.
