Fernando Alonso says Ferrari can fight for the championship – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that they have a competent car with which they can fight for this year’s championship after claiming an impressive victory
in the Spanish Grand Prix.
Alonso delivered an incredible performance at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona and scored an inspiring win after taking a start from 5th grid slot.
After struggling with the reliability issues in a couple of races in the season so far, the Spaniard has expressed confidence in his car after that last race. He asserted that they don’t want to repeat any of their past mistakes and are positively looking
forward to fight for the title.
Furthermore, he said that if they keep on doing a good job in the season ahead, they can surely make their position stronger in this year’s title fight.
“Nothing really changes,” he said. “We've only had five races and we've had ups and downs. Some races we have had a good race with no problems, and we more or less
finished all of them on the podium. At some races we have had mistakes and mechanical problems that we don't want to repeat, but we know we have the car to fight with the top and we can fight for the championship. If we do a good enough job we can fight and
that's what we will aim to do.”
Besides, he said that he is feeling immensely happy on his victory in Spain. In addition, he expressed great delight over the love and support from his fans at
his home race. He also said that they don’t want to stop here and are aiming to attain competitive results with consistency in the forthcoming races to win the championship.
“We did it and we're happy for that but we don't want to stop here obviously,” he added.
At present, he is standing at third place in the drivers’ championship with 72 points. Moreover, he is ahead of Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes and behind his major
rival, Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus who secured an amazing second podium finish in the Spanish GP.
Let’s see how the two-time world champion performs in the approaching races.
