Fernando Alonso says Ferrari is still struggling with its new car F2012 – Formula 1 news
Fernando Alonso has expressed that Ferrari is still struggling in creating a complete understanding about its new car F2012 for the upcoming 2012 Formula 1 season.
However, after the first pre-season test at the Jerez Circuit in Spain, Alonso was quite content that he would have a better time with the new car in Barcelona.
Nevertheless, Alonso thinks that it is still too early to judge the new car for its standing in the upcoming season.
Ferrari adopted an aggressive design for its new car after struggling with Red Bull and McLaren in the last season. Yet it is still coping with a range of sensors and the data regarding the aerodynamics of the new car whereas Red Bull and McLaren have already
moved their focus on the race simulations.
“It's true that we keep getting information out of the car, information that we should already have in our pocket, but the car seems quite complex and we need to keep understanding better what the behaviour is,” Alonso said. “But then I remember last year
when we did a race distance in the first day and we were one and half seconds behind Red Bull in Australia. Race distances are always welcome, but I would prefer to have a performing car and then we find reliability than have a very strong car that is slow.”
Alonso agreed that Ferrari are lagging behind its rivals and felt that it should concentrate on improving its understanding while leaving all the pressures at side.
Alonso found the new car lacking the balance as compared to the other cars in Barcelona after the down trackside observations were performed.
Furthermore, Alonso thinks that it is true that the team should already have the information about the car which it is getting at this moment as it is very complex to understand due to many technical reasons and some completely new features.
However, Alonso is not too muted due to the problems he is facing with the new Ferrari and still believes that improvements can be made in the new car for the 2012 season if the team continues to create understanding about the car as much as possible.
