Fernando Alonso says Ferrari need impeccable strategy for the British GP – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that they need an impeccable strategy for the 2013 British Grand Prix after struggling in the first two practice sessions at Silverstone circuit.
Alonso came 10th in the timesheets of FP2 after setting his best time of 1 minute and 33.494 seconds. Furthermore, he stood ahead of Jenson Button of McLaren and behind Romain Grosjean of Lotus. In contrast, his teammate, Felipe Massa came last in the charts
with his best time of 1 minute and 43.466 seconds.
The Spaniard has said that they could not gather the necessary data during the morning session because of rain. Resultantly, they had to squeeze all their work into the second session and tried to gather essential information regarding their tyres.
“Our programme for today was no different to usual and as normal, it was important to gather data relating to tyre behaviour, which here too will be the key factor,” he said.
In addition, he stated that they need a good aerodynamic package for this weekend’s race in order to attain good results. Besides, he said that they will have to make a perfect race strategy in which they must also account for the track conditions on Sunday
which will surely be drier and warmer.
“At Silverstone, you need an aerodynamic package that is suited to the combination of fast corners that are main feature at this track. The strategy will have to be impeccable and in order to make right choice for race, we will have to take into account
the fact that on Sunday we can expect very different conditions to those we saw today, because the track will definitely be drier and temperatures higher,” he added.
Presently, the two-time world champion is standing at second place in the drivers’ championship with 96 points. Furthermore, he is ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus and behind his main opponent, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing. He has claimed two race
victories and two podium finishes in the first seven races of the season.
It will be interesting to see how he performs in the approaching race.
