Fernando Alonso says Lewis Hamilton is favourite to win in Korea
Mind games are big part of every sport, and it is no different in formula one. There are just 3 races left in the season and the top 5 drivers are only separated by 31 points. Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who got his title challenge back on track with back-to-back
wins in Italy and Singapore has tried to put all the pressure on his former teammate Lewis Hamilton and said that Lewis should be the favourite to win in Korea.
Red Bull’s Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel were the one on top 2 slots in Japan Grand Prix. Webber continued his good form and was fastest in both practice sessions on Friday in Korea.
Hamilton was not far behind, and Fernando Alonso believes that the McLaren driver may be the man to beat this weekend. Hamilton for his part was also confident and said that his car is as fast as the Red Bulls and would be able to give them a good match.
This weekend may be the most important one for Lewis Hamilton who has dramatically fallen behind in the title race. The Brit has not had the best of time in last few races, and needs quick change of fortunes if he is to have any realistic chance of winning
his 2nd World Championship.
Lewis Hamilton has not been able to get to the chequered flag in 2 of last 3 races, and even in Japan due to a gearbox failure he could manage only a 5th position.
Now there are just 3 races left in the season, Hamilton is in 4th place on the leader board trailing table topper Mark Webber by 28 points. Jenson Button the other McLaren driver is further behind in 5th.
McLaren has been a team who have tried many different innovations throughout the season; some have worked while some have backfired on them. At the practice in Korea McLaren duo tried out McLaren's 'F-duct' aerodynamic innovation. The modified and upgraded
version of F-duct seemed to be working well and the results were encouraging.
Lewis Hamilton said, "Today was an encouraging first day for the team, First impressions suggest our new upgrades are working and that we seem to have the performance to match the other world championship front-runners”.
The 2008 champion said that the car feels very good, and he thought that the Korean track may actually be suited to their cars and the modifications can be used at an optimum level.
The Brit went on to say that the pace of his and Button’s car was pretty close to Red Bull, and in truth both teams looked almost equal in terms of outpace. He added that if things remain like that in qualifying, it may come down to the sharp corners and
whoever can make best use of them would be able to come out on top.
Hamilton who became the youngest world champion in 2008 said that the title race is by no means over and he has full confidence in himself, his car and his team that they would be able to pull it off in final 3 races.
Lewis Hamilton commented on Fernando Alonso’s suggestions that Hamilton is the favourite to win the race. Hamilton said it is nice of Fernando to say that, but he will not be taking any pressure from those comments. He added that he knows his former teammate
and said that Alonso does believe a lot in mind games, but he is one step ahead of him and would prove what he can do on the tracks.
