Fernando Alonso says McLaren’s Jenson Button has ability to fight for 2011 title – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that McLaren’s Jenson Button has the ability to fight the very strong rivals on the grid in order to challenge the 2011 championship.
The Spaniard added that Button showed in the 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix that he can beat the leading driver Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel in the championship battle.
The team driver praised the performance of McLaren’s driver and said that he did a great job in the season so far. In addition, he stated that the Brit impressed the viewers in the Budapest race by achieving a race victory at the Hungaroring race circuit.
Alonso commented, “He is always a safe bet. He is always best in these [wet and uncertain] conditions. Each driver has a strong point and this is a quality he has and we do not.”
He went on to mention, “We have to learn from him. He always has the perfect strategy and absolute confidence to drive in these situations, which is his strong point.”
The 30-year-old driver further added that Button is always competitive in both the wet and uncertain conditions. He admitted that the McLaren driver has the quality to manage races under tough situations.
The Maranello-based outfit driver talked to the media and said that they must learn from Button, as he always has a perfect strategy during the race and confidently drives the car in any situation.
Ferrari driver, Alonso was looking in a very competitive form from that last few races following his disappointing start to the 2011 F1 season. He won the race in the ongoing season for the first time at the British Grand Prix. He started his Silverstone
race from the third place on the front row and after struggling on the sets of medium and soft tyres, he came at the top place in the final race classifications.
In the 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix, he was 19.8 seconds off the pace from Button, who was the race winner. After starting the race from the fifth place on the opening grid, he finished on the last stair of the podium after putting all of his efforts.
Let’s see how the current strong rivals perform in the last eight rounds of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
