Fernando Alonso says he is sure Ferrari will have an exciting race weekend in Italy – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that he is sure his team will have an exciting race weekend in Italy, which will be held on September 11, 2011 at the Monza racetrack.
Alonso added that Monza is a very special race for every driver of Formula 1. However, he stated that all the teams are ready to show their best possible performances in Italy this weekend.
The Spaniard is in a competitive form at the moment following his disappointing start in the 2011 Formula 1 season. The Ferrari driver is aiming to achieve a race victory in the upcoming Italian Grand Prix, as he believes the team can win at the Monza racetrack
following their positive results in the last few race weekends.
Talking to reporters, Alonso said, “Winning at Monza is incredible and winning there driving a red car is even more incredible. Being on the podium and seeing thousands of fans below you wearing red shirts and waving red flags is simply an overwhelming emotion.
Our aim this year is the same as last year: to win the race.”
He added, “Monza is a very special race for every driver; it’s the fastest circuit in the World Championship and driving there gives you an extraordinary feeling. It is also very special for emotional reasons, especially if you are a Ferrari driver as I
experienced for the first time last year.”
The 30-year-old driver is looking forward to a successful race weekend at the Monza racetrack. He said that he knows Ferrari’s current rivals, which included Red Bull Racing and McLaren are very strong at the moment, but despite of that they just focus on
how they can win the Italian race this weekend.
After taking part in 12 rounds of the ongoing season, the Maranello-based outfit driver is at the third place with 157 points in the 2011 drivers’ championship. There is still a gap of 102 points between Alonso and the current leading driver Red Bull’s Sebastian
Vettel in the title fight.
Let’s see whether Alonso can manage a race victory in Italy this weekend or not.
