Fernando Alonso says he will not have such a perfect year again – Formula 1 news
Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso has admitted that the 2012 F1 season was a perfect year for him and he will not be able to repeat that again.
“You just have the feeling that some years you have done a good job and others when you feel there was something missing or something you wanted to change or want to improve for next year,” Alonso told. “I think it's been a perfect year. It's going to be
nearly impossible to repeat that in my career.”
The Spanish driver has also stated that he expects a better start to the next season.
“A worst start would be impossible,” he said. “We were some 2.5 seconds off the pace in the Jerez test when the car made its debut, so it's nearly impossible that it will be worse, and so I expect a better start.”
However, Alonso added that Red Bull Racing will still be the favourites in the beginning given their strong performance towards the end of this past season. He told that the Austrian team was faster by 7 or 8 tenths of a second and to close that gap within
two months will be really difficult. He said that the team will be doing a lot of effort and certainly will have a better start as compared to last year’s.
Alonso said he is very hopeful that Ferrari will be bringing strong competition next season. He said that their goal is to secure a first and second place both in qualifiers and on race day. He added that many teams have done that recently like McLaren,
Red Bull and Lotus as well. He pointed out that the team’s main weakness is the car so they will be focusing on improving it.
This past season saw the second championship fight between Alonso and Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel. Vettel won his first title over Alonso in 2010. Alonso had been dominating most of the season but the Red Bull driver took the lead in the second half. The
season ended with an epic Brazilian GP where Vettel was witnessed becoming the youngest triple champion in the history of F1.
