Fernando Alonso says next few races will be important for title win – Formula 1 news
Fernando Alonso, who drives for Ferrari, admits that he needs to achieve success in the upcoming races to keep up his chances for the drivers’ championship.
Alonso, who had been leading the drivers’ championship before Korean Grand Prix, fell off six points behind Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull when he finished third at the Korean GP. He admits that even though Vettel has won the last three races, Ferrari still
has the ability to shine in the final four races.
“We didn't bring anything new to the last six or seven races, so we are doing what we can at the moment and trying to save points, which I think we are doing perfectly every Sunday,” he said. “It was a perfect Sunday for us with a good start, a good strategy
and then a finish on the podium. I think it was a very strong Sunday but hopefully we will make a little bit of a step in performance and we can fight for bigger things.”
Earlier, in September, he had highlighted similar importance of upcoming races for his title win and had insisted that Ferrari will be at its best before the current season reaches its final moments. He had told the press that out of the seven circuits left
on the season, Marina Bay, Suzuka and Yeongam will be the best places for Ferrari to show its potential.
He also expressed his happiness with the whole team’s performance this Sunday despite it cost him the lead in the drivers’ championship. He confessed that some people might be moving ahead of them; they might have faced some problems including the six point
loss but he is still very confident and that they still have a lot of opportunities to avail. He said that success in next races will greatly depend on the condition of their car.
He insisted that Ferrari’s performance had not been as poor as it had appeared to be in the last three races. He said that their overall work had been good except the puncture they had suffered at Suzuka.
He added that it will be difficult to get seven points more than Sebastian but he is still confident.
