Fernando Alonso says that Ferrari is very confident ahead of the 2012 season – Formula 1 news
Fernando Alonso says that the Ferrari camp is in a very confident frame of mind and is up to speed with its development of the 2012 car ahead of the pre-season testing.
Ferrari are being speculated amongst other teams as serious favourites for the 2012 season. The 2011 season was not a good season for Ferrari as they soon realised during the season that the Ferrari car was not as competitive to be in contention for a title.
Ferrari started working on their car for 2012 earlier than others and are all set to test it at the pre-season testing.
Fernando Alonso was a driver who save Ferrari blushes and secured a third place finish in the Constructors Championship for the team. Fernando although was only able to claim a single victory at Silverstone.
The consistent performances of Alonso helped the team to respectable standing but that is not what the Scarlet team is looking for and their President Luca di Montezemolo expressed that stance clearly when he warned Alonso’s teammate Felipe Massa to perform
better in 2012 otherwise he may not be able to retain his race seat beyond 2012. While also saying that he has complete faith in the Brazilian’s abilities and knows that he will come back to form in 2012.
“It's true that in the past few days, there was a good feeling at Maranello and there's an air of confidence about it. We want to reacquaint ourselves with the taste of winning that has eluded us for a while,” Alonso said.
“Ferrari is burdened with the expectations of victory and if it does not happen, in the winter the papers devote page after page to the whys and wherefores as to how things can change, while the others have to make do with the crumbs in terms of media coverage.
It's one of the things that make Ferrari different to all the other teams,” the Spaniard added.
It would be interesting to see how their car fares at the pre-season testing. Four teams have confirmed that they will be testing their new cars. Ferrari, Sauber, Red Bull and Sauber are all set to have the tests.
