Fernando Alonso says they only have minimal changes for 2012 Spanish GP – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that they are not going to come up with some significant updates in their car F2012 in 2012 Spanish Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on May 13.
The Scarlet team aimed at making the essential evaluations about some of the major updates in the car during the three-day in-season test held at Mugello circuit last week.
However, Alonso said that they have just focused on the different setups in the test and targeted to complete what was left in the pre-season tests this year. He also said that they merely have some nominal alterations in the car.
“No, not really,” he said. “I think we didn't have any big improvements in the car so what we tested were different setups and different things that we missed from winter testing. That has been quite difficult for us with many problems in the car and not many laps, so the Mugello test was more to complete what we had left from winter. But in terms of improvements we had minimal changes in the car so the car felt the same.”
Nevertheless, the Spaniard expressed that they are much more confident for the next race than they were ahead of the season opener after their struggling pre-season testing programme.
“We are definitely better prepared now than we were before Australia,” said Alonso.
In addition, he said that they have a plan to introduce some major upgrades in the car mainly concerning with the aerodynamics, after the Spanish GP.
Over and above, he stated that they need to keep on making the required advancements for the approaching season in order to become more competitive to make their position stronger in this year’s championship. Additionally, he said that they must improve their qualifying position too in the upcoming race at his home circuit.
At present, the Italian team is standing at fourth place in the constructor’s championship with 45 points ahead of Mercedes. Besides, they have been making the significant developments and the necessary preparations so as to enhance their car’s pace in the season ahead.
