Fernando Alonso secures pole position for 2012 German Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has secured the pole position for 2012 German Grand Prix in rainy conditions at Hockenheimring.
Alonso delivered a remarkable performance on wet track just like he did at Silverstone and took the pole position for the race ahead. He ran on full wet Pirelli compound tyres and set the fastest time of 1 minute and 40.621 seconds.
The Spaniard was followed by Red Bull Racing pair of drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber who also performed quite convincingly. However, Webber will face five-place grid penalty because of gearbox change.
The Australian driver stayed ahead of Michael Schumacher of Mercedes and Nico Hulkenberg of Force India who will take a start from third and fourth grid positions on the race day.
Pastor Maldonado of Williams came 6th in the timesheets with his quickest time of 1 minute and 43.950 seconds. Moreover, he remained ahead of McLaren drivers, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton who again faced difficulties due to rain.
Besides, it will be important to mention that Button for the first time in the current season so far, outqualified his compatriot and teammate, Hamilton.
The British drivers were followed by Paul di Resta of Force India who stayed ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus.
The Finnish driver remained ahead of Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso who could not make his way into the third session.
Ricciardo was followed by Sauber pair of drivers, Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi who faced problems in improving their lap times because of the changing weather conditions.
Felipe Massa of Ferrari came 14th in the timesheets with his best time of 1 minute and 40.212 seconds and remained ahead of Romain Grosjean of Lotus.
The French driver stayed ahead of Bruno Senna of Williams who was further followed by Nico Rosberg of Mercedes who could not make his way into Q3.
Additionally, it is to be noted that Grosjean and Rosberg will face five-place grid penalty as they had an unscheduled gearbox change.
Jean-Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso came 18th in the timesheets and was followed by Caterham drivers, Heikki Kovalainen and Vitaly Petrov.
The Russian driver remained ahead of Marussia pair of drivers, Charles Pic and Timo Glock who ended ahead of HRT drivers, Pedro de la Rosa and Narain Karthikeyan.
Even though, the tougher weather conditions kept on hampering the performances of many contenders at Hockenheim, nevertheless, there were some drivers who made the most out of the given circumstances.
At present, all the teams are busy in making the considerable preparations to come up stronger in the approaching race. Over and above, it will be very exciting to see how the season progresses for all the contenders and how they perform in the forthcoming
race.
