Fernando Alonso seeks improvements in his F2012 to fight McLaren at Monza circuit – Formula 1 news
Fernando Alonso of Ferrari seeks improvements in his Ferrari to fight McLaren prior to the qualifying round of the Italian Grand Prix. He registered his fastest lap during the final practice session 2 at the third position after the two McLaren drivers.
The Spanish driver was not comfortable with his drive because of the mechanical issue he faced with his car, on Friday, however he believed that it may have happened because they try to get the most out of their car.
He said, “It was a bit of a strange Friday because of the mechanical failures, but sometimes we push to the limit.”
The Championship leader is of the view that, to cater to the strong position of McLaren they need to focus over their performance. The dry weather at Monza is expected to help them in maximizing the performance of his car.
Alonso added, “Tomorrow will be a better test for us to measure really where we are in terms of performance.”
The Spaniard will be using the data from his teammate, Felipe Massa to cater to the laps he could not complete. He needs an improved car by making some modifications.
“When you have your session stopped for any reason you need to trust your team-mate and all the information from the other car so thanks to Felipe today we will not miss any of the laps that we were not able to do,” he added.
The Ferrari driver said that it is very important to take care of the minor details because such problems can result in a significant difference. He added that it is good that the problem was identified on Friday because it is expected that it will be resolved
forever.
The championship leader completed his fastest lap in 1 minute and 25.348 seconds less than one tenth of a second from Lewis Hamilton of McLaren who topped the FP2.
Massa completed his fastest lap in 1 minute and 25.430 seconds.
Let’s see if Alonso gets some useful data from his teammate and adds to his championship lead or not. He currently attains 164 points.
