Fernando Alonso sees a great second year with Ferrari
The Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso is ready to come back next season with a renewed force and high spirits. The Spaniard can also foresee his team being stronger next year while he also sees Mercedes GP coming back next season with a very competitive car
and great fighting spirit.
The driver had a very unfortunate ending to this season as the third championship of his career slipped out of his hands after a poorly run last race. Now, the two time world champion is keen to begin the battle once again in the spring of next year.
The 2010 Formula One season marked the first year of the Spanish ace with the Italian squad. After a lulled mid season the team as well as the driver came back to the championship arena with a loud roar. Very soon the driver made his way to the top of the
points’ tally, moving up from his initial fifth place. As the caravan of cars entered the last round of the season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Alonso led the charts with an advantage of 8 points over the Red Bull driver, Mark Webber who held 2nd
place in the points’ tally. Although Ferrari was pretty hopeful of laying their hands on their first drivers’ title in three years, an unwise race strategy changed the situation completely. As the day ended, the 29 year old was standing at around the 7th
place, while the young Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull bagged the first title of his life.
As the season decider, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix came to an end, Ferrari immediately accepted that a poorly tailored race strategy cost them the championship they were so close to winning. As the Red Bull driver, Webber went for an early pit stop, Ferrari
also asked Alonso to take a pit. However, the decision proved fatal for the team’s hopes as Alonso got stuck behind the Renault driver, and a rookie in the series, Vitaly Petrov for 40 laps following the pitstop.
Although the red uniformed team is still striving to overcome the disappointment and grief, they have not lost all hope yet. Both, the team and the driver believe that their first year had been a positive one. He proclaimed a few days back that although
the heartache of losing the championship was still present, he is glad that he is with a legendary team and does not have to go through the process of seeking a new team for the upcoming season.
Alonso explained by saying, “Personally, I really want to start again… My first year at Ferrari was very nice and brought much satisfaction. If you think that at the beginning, I didn’t even know the name of all the mechanics, then the start of next season
should definitely be more straightforward. We are proud of what we have done and, at the same time, aware we have to improve.”
Even though the team still stays disappointed and lament, Alonso is confident this won’t affect their spirit or their preparations for the next season.
Moreover, the driver added, “The team was very disappointed with the missed opportunity but Ferrari’s great strength is that does not sink into depression because of one mistake, on the contrary, it reacts to be even more determined the following year.”
The driver concluded by saying that he is looking forward to an even more exciting and thrilling 2011 season. This year the battle was witnessed between the top three teams, Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull, while the Spanish driver hopes to see Mercedes, coming
back to the tug for the title with a renewed pace and form next year.
