Fernando Alonso shows faith in the new F2012 ahead of the season – Formula 1 news
Fernando Alonso has come in defence of the new Ferrari F2012.
Ferrari has been struggling since the car was unveiled and tested in the first pre-season test at Jerez. The team faced technical issues with the car and did not manage to live up to its pre-season hype.
Ferrari revamped their car and came out with a rather less pretty car for the upcoming season but the team maintained that though the car is not that pleasing to the eye it will deliver on the track and that is what matters.
“There has been a tendency, especially from the media, to say that the car is bad and we are not having a good winter, but they don't understand,” Alonso told Marca. “We are very calm because the car is very complex and there's no reason to believe that
it won't be quick. The thing that is costing all of us is to get back the grip lost at the rear of the car by the blown diffusers ban, but I think it will be recovered soon,” he further added.
Massa drove the F2012 car and had a lot of trouble and instantly said that the car needs to be tweaked a lot before it can be ready for the season.
Ferrari admitted that the car is not what they planned it to be though the team will take heart from the fact that other teams have had trouble too. Even the mighty Red Bull RB8 had its share of trouble during the pre-season tests.
After the banning of off-throttle blown diffuser the teams were forced to make drastic changes to the design of their cars which has lead to some technical issues. The season might be dominated by the team that best handles the reliability.
The third pre-season test will take place a week from now at the same Barcelona track. Ferrari will look to get F2012 ready for the test to focus on its performance so that they can start the season with some confidence.
The season starts on March 18, 2012 with the Australian Grand Prix as the inaugurating race of the season.
