Fernando Alonso shows support to Lewis Hamilton for leaving McLaren – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has shown support to Lewis Hamilton of McLaren who is reportedly considering leaving his team after the 2012 Formula 1 season.
Hamilton has been surrounded by many speculations that he is going to change his team at the end of this year as his contract with the Woking based team is going to expire. Moreover, he has been linked with Mercedes as a probable replacement of Michael Schumacher
who according to the reports will retire from his race seat after this year.
Meanwhile, Alonso who had been the teammate of the British driver in McLaren back in 2007, has said that he doesn’t find any issue with Hamilton’s consideration of leaving his team.
“So if Hamilton is also evaluating that option, I don’t see why anyone should say it (Hamilton leaving) is not possible,” Alonso said.
He added, “McLaren is a great team, but they won the world championship in 2008 only at the last corner of the last race. If we remove that title, you have to go back a long way to find another one.”
Besides, the two-time world champion admired the skills and abilities of Briton and said that they are the only drivers in the field right now who can perform well even with a car which is not competent enough as compared to the other rivals.
“I have said he is the only one capable of winning without having the best car. The others win if the car is good, and when it is not (good), they do not (win),” he said.
It will be important to note that Alonso and Hamilton have been considered as the most favourite drivers in this year’s championship fight.
Even though, the 31-year-old is leading the drivers’ championship and has a strong lead over the 2008 world champion, nonetheless, he has said that he is looking forward to attack in the remaining races of the current season so as to claim the title.
Above and beyond, it will be very thrilling to see how they compete in the Singapore Grand Prix which is going to be held at Marina Bay Street Circuit on September 23, 2012.
