Fernando Alonso takes the Malaysian Grand Prix by surprise – Formula 1 news
Fernando Alonso came out to be the surprisingly surprising winner of the Malaysian Grand Prix.
The surprise of the win was with popular notion of the season that Ferrari is not capable to be in contention for wins or titles this season. Time and time again, Alonso has sprung up on occasion to show his true class, and yet again he was successful in
pulling off a heist that no one was even talking about.
The Malaysian Grand Prix has opened up the competition to various other teams and drivers and continues to be a season of unpredictability and close fought races as the gap between teams remains marginal.
If Alonso’s win was a surprise, the runners up of the race was even more surprising as Sergio Perez defied all odds to take the position behind the Spaniard. Sauber looked good from the word go, but no one talked about them taking on the top teams, and this
has been a pleasant surprise for the fans.
Perez nearly became the winner of the race as went wide of Alonso to make his move ahead six laps before the end of the race but slid his car off track and was left almost 5 seconds behind a margin he could not make up in the remaining laps.
Lewis Hamilton was considered to be a front-runner for the win before the race ended the race placed third, also in a state of confusion of how he was left behind a struggling Ferrari and an unlikely Sauber driven by Perez. Hamilton’s teammate and the winner
of the first race of the season Jenson Button had a collision with HRT driver Narain Karthikeyan which resulted in a pointless position at 14th for the Brit.
Mark Webber came in fourth for the Red Bull as his teammate and the champion of the previous two seasons Sebastian Vettel was buried down the table at 11th. Vettel also collided with Karthikeyan which caused him to be so low in the standings.
Lotus improved its performance from the previous race as Kimi Raikkonen came in at 5th below the Finn was Bruno Senna in the Williams. Senna showed good pace and overtook Michael Schumacher during the race to move up the ranks.
Paul di Resta in the Force India car came in at seventh a much-improved result than the previous race. Jean-Eric Vergne in the Toro Rosso was sandwiched between the two Force India cars and finished at 8th place while Nico Hulkenberg was 9th.
Pastor Maldonado again had an unfortunate race as his car’s engine blew up in the final lap of the race and had to retire, which brought Schumacher in the top ten and gave him the first point of the season.
Daniel Ricciardo in the other Toro Rosso was placed at 12th above the second Mercedes car driven by Nico Rosberg. Felipe Massa had another horrid race and finished at 15th.
The next race is two weeks from now in China and from what has transpired in Malaysia, it is likely that it will be another enthralling race.
