Fernando Alonso takes the victory at 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Fernando Alonso of Ferrari takes a remarkable victory at 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix held at Sepang International Circuit on Sunday.
After facing huge trials and tribulations, the Spaniard has finally succeeded to bring something to cherish for his team, a victory which the Scarlet team has long been longing for.
Ferrari had been struggling with the performance of its car F2012 during all the pre-season tests held at Jerez and Barcelona circuits. Moreover, after the last test at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, the technical director of the Red team, Pat Fry ruled out the possibility of a podium finish in the season opener at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia held on last Sunday.
Furthermore, Alonso himself said that they could not fight for the podium finish in the first few races and expressed that they would try to gather the necessary information in the first race to make the necessary improvements and essential preparations for the races ahead. However, later he said that he felt relaxed and was positive for the approaching season.
It would be important to mention that Sergio Perez of Sauber claimed that second position at Sepang with an inspiring performance while Lewis Hamilton of McLaren followed Perez after he secured the pole in the qualifying on Saturday.
Furthermore, the biggest disappointments include Jenson Button’s finish at 14thposition who was the winner of the first race and the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel who could only managed to finish at 11th place after claiming the second podium last week.
The Italian marquee went with the perfect plan for the wet track while Alonso remained ahead of Perez by just 2.2 seconds.
However, Perez did try his best to overtake Alonso during the 50th lap and resultantly went wide, which ultimately caused him to lose his chance to claim his first GP victory as the gap was increased reasonably high to be covered in the remaining laps of the race.
Besides, Mark Webber of Red Bull finished at fourth position and was followed by Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus who ended ahead of Bruno Senna of Williams.
Force India drivers, Paul di Resta and Nico Hulkenberg secured 7th and 9th place while Jean-Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso stood between them.
In addition, Michael Schumacher of Mercedes AMG managed to end amongst the top ten after his incredible third place finish in the qualifying of second race.
