Fernando Alonso terms Ferrari’s performance in 2011 Japanese Grand Prix fantastic – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has described his team’s performance in the 2011 Formula 1 season as fantastic.
Alonso said that his Suzuka race finish on the podium was a boost for the team. The Spaniard added that he is really happy with his decent finish on the grid at the Japanese racetrack on Sunday, October 9.
The team driver discussed the 2011 Japanese Grand Prix and mentioned, “It was a fun race, at the start we did not overtake any cars, then there was a lot of tyre degradation. We had the pace today to fight with McLaren and Red Bull Racing.”
He went on to say, “It's fantastic podium, it is a good thing for the team after difficult races where we were not so competitive. This podium means a lot to the team and is a big motivation for the team.”
The 30-year-old driver further mentioned that Ferrari had good pace during Sunday’s race to fight with their close rivals, which included McLaren and Red Bull Racing.
Alonso participated in the Japanese race weekend with an aim of taking a very strong start. He finished his FP1 in the fourth spot behind Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel, while in FP2, he came at the second position ahead of Vettel in the final time sheet.
The Maranello-based outfit driver again put his team on the fourth position in the final Practice session of the 2011 Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuka circuit.
Alonso was unable to manage his Qualifying run in the top three positions, as his rivals were faster as compared to him during that. After starting the race from the fifth position at the Suzuka circuit, the team driver ended up at the second position with a gap of 1.1 seconds from McLaren’s Jenson Button.
After completing 15 rounds of the 2011 Formula 1 season so far, Alonso is placed at the third place behind Button with 202 points in the drivers’ championship.
