Fernando Alonso terms Monaco Grand Prix run best for Ferrari in 2011 Formula 1 season
Ferrari’s driver Fernando Alonso has termed his Monaco Grand Prix run the best for the team in the ongoing 2011 Formula 1 season so far.
After a very disappointing Spanish Grand Prix, Alonso delivered his best at the Monaco street track, finishing second on the podium behind Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel.
However, the Spanish thinks that Vettel is far ahead in the championship battle after moving 74 points clear of the Spaniard with the victory in Monaco. However, the team boss Stefano Domenicali says he believed that his team will twist the battle of title
around.
Ferrari said that the Formula 1 driver was incredible all weekend and he fought for a win right down to the final lap. The team also stated that there is no doubt the red flag towards the end of the race hampered their driver’s chances to do well in the
last few laps of the race.
Alonso said, “Immediately after the race, I said the fight for the title was getting ever more difficult, not to say impossible. Sure, if Vettel ends up winning a race in which we felt there was a chance of victory, then you get a feeling of disappointment,
but that does not mean we will not continue working hard at the track and back home on developing the car.”
The Spaniard also discussed the upcoming race weekends and said that the Silverstone venue will be a key battle for Ferrari. According to Alonso’s calculations, his team needs to win three more races to be on level terms with Red Bull Racing. However, it
might not be possible at this moment, because firstly they have to try to close the gap between themselves and McLaren
After a podium finish in Monte Carlo, Alonso is looking forward to a race victory in Canada. Let’s see if he manages to do that.
