Fernando Alonso thinks tyre management will play a crucial role in 2013 Chinese GP – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso thinks that tyre management will play a very crucial role in the 2013 Chinese Grand Prix after setting the third best time in second free Friday practice session at Shanghai International Circuit.
Alonso seemed really comfortable behind the wheel of his car on soft compound tyres and managed to set the third fastest time in FP2. He expressed that he is feeling quite positive after the Friday practice as he successfully managed to gather the essential information about their car which will definitely help in making necessary advancements in the future.
Besides, he said that there was a considerable improvement in the track conditions during the second session as compared to the first one. He also said that the temperature rose after the morning. Therefore, they are expecting the same conditions in FP3 and the qualifying.
“By the end of the day, the overall feeling is positive,” Alonso said. “We worked well and on top of that, it's always great fun driving the Shanghai track which has some really unique features, such as the first corner. From one session to the next the track conditions improved significantly, because the other categories that ran after our morning session cleaned the surface. The increase in temperature means the conditions were very similar to those predicted for tomorrow.”
The Spaniard performed inspiringly well in the Australian GP and claimed an incredible second podium finish after setting off from fifth grid position. Unfortunately, he failed to score even a single point in the second round at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia as he was retired. Nonetheless, he is confidently looking forward to perform well in the third race of the season.
The two-time world champion has asserted that tyre managed will play a very important role in China. So, he insisted that in order to attain competitive results in the next race, they need to choose the right strategy.
“Once again, tyres will play a key role in this Grand Prix because of the high level of degradation over a long run,” he added.
