Fernando Alonso tops the times chart: German GP first practice session - Formula 1
The first practice session of the German Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season is done and dusted in Nurburgring and Ferrari’s Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso took his superb form from Silverstone and grabbed the top position in the session.
The Spaniard was the only driver to post a time under 1 minute 32 second whereas all the other drivers were beyond that limit.
The session was not interrupted by rain which was good news for Ferrari as Felipe Massa also managed a fourth position finish with less than a second difference from Alonso.
Red Bull’s Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel were second and third on the table with some handsome times on the chart. The Aussie posted two back to back fastest laps which show that Milton Keynes team will enjoy their time out in Germany with the return of the blown diffuser.
Vettel did the fastest lap time of 1 minute and 32.268 seconds.
McLaren’s duo, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button were fifth and sixth on the table almost two seconds slower than the pace setter Alonso. The British teams tried out some new aerodynamic parts to improve the down force of their package. Both British drivers did some laps to gather some important data and some strong performance can be expected from them in the second session.
Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg was seventh on the table while his team-mate Michael Schumacher was tenth on the table as both Germans enjoyed the session in front of their home crowd.
Surprisingly Force India’s Adrian Sutil and test driver Nico Hulkenberg were eighth and ninth on the table with some good times. Renault’s drivers Vitaly Petrov managed 11th position and Nick Heidfeld finished 15th on the times chart.
Furthermore, both Indian drivers on the grid, Narain Karthikeyan and Karun Chandhok were on the grid with HRT and team Lotus respectively.
The second session of the German Grand Prix will follow shortly on Friday afternoon.
