Fernando Alonso tops the timesheets in FP3 of 2012 British Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has topped the timesheets in the third free practice session of 2012 British Grand Prix held at Silverstone Circuit.
Alonso came back really well in FP3 after struggling in the rain affected Friday practice and set the best time of 1 minute and 32.167 seconds. Moreover, he covered 21 laps and collected some valuable information about the updated F2012.
Furthermore, all the contenders seemed comfortable during their running on dry track in the final session.
The Spaniard was followed by Jenson Button of McLaren who came second after setting his fastest time of 1 minute and 32.320 seconds. In addition, he completed 20 laps and stayed ahead of Romain Grosjean of Lotus who set the third quickest laptime of 1 minute
and 32.358 seconds.
Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing stood at fourth place in the timesheets with his fastest time of 1 minute and 32.420 seconds. Besides, the defending champion completed 21 laps and was followed by Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus.
The Finnish driver remained ahead of Lewis Hamilton of McLaren who came 6th with his best time of 1 minute and 32.477 seconds. Additionally, he completed 20 laps and was followed by Pastor Maldonado of Williams.
Sergio Perez of Sauber came 8th in the timesheets with his fastest time of 1 minute and 32.940 seconds. He completed 19 laps and remained ahead of his teammate, Kamui Kobayashi.
Nico Hulkenberg of Force India set the 10th best time and was followed by Bruno Senna of Williams who was further followed by Hulkenberg’s teammate, Paul di Resta.
Mark Webber of Red Bull could only set 13th best time of 1 minute and 33.398 seconds as he remained busy in testing the updates in RB8.
The Australian driver stayed ahead of Michael Schumacher of Mercedes who covered 24 laps and came 14th in the timesheets.
The record championship holder was followed by Jean-Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso who completed 22 laps and was followed by Felipe Massa of Ferrari who remained ahead of Vergne’s teammate, Daniel Ricciardo.
Nico Rosberg completed 15 laps and came 18th in the timesheets. Furthermore, he seemed struggling behind the wheel of W03 and didn’t look quite contended as compared to the second session in which he showed impressive pace in the rainy conditions.
The German driver stayed ahead of Caterham pair of drivers, Heikki Kovalainen and Vitaly Petrov who were further followed by Marussia drivers, Timo Glock and Charles Pic.
Over and above, it will be very interesting to see how all the contenders perform in the qualifying of the forthcoming race.
