Fernando Alonso underplays speculations about Sebastian Vettel joining Ferrari – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has dismissed all the rumours that Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing will join the Scarlet team in 2014 Formula 1 season.
It has been reported that the defending champion has signed a pre-contract with the Italian team after the 2012 Monaco Grand Prix held at Circuit de Monaco on May 27.
“Insiders are adamant that the German has signed an option with Ferrari for 2014, subject to competitive form from the Prancing Horse stable for the rest of 2012,” The Independent on Sunday reported.
However, Alonso completely underplayed all the speculations about Vettel’s coming to Ferrari.
“I had this when I was with Renault in the past. Every year around summer always the speculations: 'Alonso will go to Ferrari.' I answered many questions over the years and now when I joined Ferrari it is the opposite. Every year someone is coming to Ferrari,
it has been like this. I think it is something you have to deal also when you are in Ferrari,” he added.
On the other hand, Vettel showed full commitment to Red Bull and has responded well to all the reports. He expressed that he is very much happy with his current team and does not want to leave it.
At present, Alonso is leading the drivers’ championship with 76 points and he is 3 points ahead of the veteran German driver who is standing at second position with his teammate, Mark Webber.
It will be interesting to mention that the team principal of Red Bull, Christian Horner said that Alonso will be the key factor in this championship. He also said that the two-time world champion will remain their strongest rivals throughout this season.
Nonetheless, he said that it is very hard to make any kind of predictions about the races ahead as there have been six different winners in the first six races of the season.
Over and above, it will interesting to see how the season will progress as all the contenders are trying their best to make the essential developments and the necessary preparations so as to fight for championship title this year.
