Fernando Alonso vows to lose some weight before the 2011 Formula 1 season
Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso was clearly one of the best drivers of the year 2010 and according to his performance since his debut in the sport; Fernando has by far been one of the best drivers the sport has produced in the last decade. The Spaniard led the
drivers’ standings until the end of the 2010 Formula 1 season but it seems that luck was not by his side at the grand finale in Abu Dhabi as he lost some vital points and as a result, lost his lead to Sebastian Vettel who became the 2010 world champion.
It was quite disappointing for Ferrari after a tough 2010 Formula 1 season but it seems that the team and Alonso himself are going to do everything in their power in order to produce some positive results before next season.
Fernando Alonso recently stated that he is going to lose some weight along with Rubens Barrichello before the 2011 Formula 1 season in order to compensate the weight of KERS that will be allowed to use next season.
KERS is basically Kinetic Energy Recovery System. It is a device that preserves the heat energy which is generated due to braking and kinetic energy of the car. KERS converts it into Kinetic Energy and stores a sort of a boost that can be used by the drivers
in the middle of the race.
If Fernando loses some weight, he would compensate the weight of KERS and as a result, Fernando along with his car will weigh less than it is expected to weigh. The Spaniard currently weighs 68 kilograms and he wants to lose between 2-3 kg before the season
begins in March at Bahrain.
“The fans should get ready for me being thinner. With the return of KERS, every kilo a driver can trim can be used as ballast. So I'm going to lose a little weight,” the 29-year-old smiled during Ferrari's Christmas celebrations at Maranello.
Rubens Barrichello gave a similar statement recently and it is good to see the amount of work the drivers are putting in order to secure the best possible results for their respective teams.
“I will also improve my athletic preparation for the longest championship in history because it will be necessary to be fully fit for ten months,” he added.
