Fernando Ernesto Pires Do seizes Men’s 200m freestyle gold – Jose Finkel Trophy
Fernando Ernesto Pires Do of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM seized gold medal of the Men’s 200m freestyle on second day of the 2012 Jose Finkel Trophy in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Tuesday, August 21.
Pires Do stifled hopes of his opponents in the 200m discipline as he showed his urgency towards the finishing wall for gold medal. He gained slight lead over his challengers from the start and sprinted his way towards the wall for the title of the event.
With his impeccable efforts, he remained one stroke ahead of his toughest challenger and tapped the wall for first position with a timing of 1 minute and 44.92 seconds.
The champion was followed by Nicolas Cesar Oliveira of FIAT/MINAS, who remained 0.24 seconds slower and hit the finishing blockade with an effort of 1 minute and 45.16 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Vinicius Rocha Waked of FFC/RJ, who was 0.22 seconds behind and occupied bronze medal of the race by producing a time of 1 minute and 45.38 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was secured by Joao B de Lucca of CRF/RJ, who remained 0.59 seconds slower from upsetting his foregoing finisher and settled on the finishing blockade by posting a time of 1 minute and 45.97 seconds.
Lucca was chased by Andre Schultz of CRF/RJ, who stayed more than a half body length behind and submitted an effort of 1 minute and 46.74 seconds for fifth position.
Lucca enjoyed a benefit of 0.33 seconds away from Gustavo Godoy of CAIXEIROS, who proved his mettle for sixth fastest spot of the race by reporting a time of 1 minute and 48.07 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Phillip Cameron Morrison of ECP/SABESP, who remained 0.67 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and clocked a time of 1 minute and 48.74 seconds.
Similarly, Morrison was followed by Joao Veras Amorim of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM, who was two and a half body length behind and clocked a time of 1 minute and 51.05 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Pires Do expressed happiness over his gold finish in the event.
