Fernando Muñoz joins Spanish Men’s National Team as head coach – Volleyball news
Fernando Muñoz has accepted the job of head coach at Spain’s Men’s Senior National Volleyball Team. The information reached media on Wednesday, April 6, 2011.
Apparently, he has signed two-year contract with the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation. He has replaced Argentinean Julio Velasco, who has recently moved to Iran. Munoz is a native man and he has the reputation of a successful coach in Spain.
Lately, he was working against the position of head coach at the Ciudad Medio Ambiente Soria Men’s club in Spanish Superliga.
The 40-year-old coach comes with a wealth of experience in his repertoire. He worked with different club teams and enabled them to catch the limelight. Munoz spent five seasons with local club Unicaja ALMERIA. Likewise, he held the position of head coach
at other Spanish clubs i.e. CMA Soria and Eade Iversur.
His visionary skills of coaching were not only acknowledged in Spain but some of the foreign volleyball clubs also hired him as their mentor.
In this regard, he remained the head coach of Italian Eurosport Brutium COSENZA for quite some time. Turkey’s Arkas IZMIR was also headed by Munoz at some point.
Now he has made big move of by accepting the role of head coach at men’s senior national team in his own country. Muñoz seemed totally satisfied and happy with his new role.
He stated, “For me it is very important to become national head coach, for the confidence posed in me and for the moment in which I receive this task. I would like to turn the team into a squad with ambitions; I think we need to get back the winning mentality.
In my opinion, we can take use of our technical level to regain a character that I have seen in the squad in the past.”
The President of the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation, Agustin Martin Santos also expressed delight about the addition of Munoz.
He said, “The hiring of Fernando Muñoz is a determined and firm decision to give the lead of the team to a Spanish coach. Muñoz meets all the necessary requirements to manage the team as he has been accumulating experience in different categories of the
Spanish national team and has been the coach of some of the best clubs in the national leagues of Spain, Italy and Turkey; I think that this appointment will be welcomed by the Spanish Volleyball.”
The Spanish Volleyball Federation has high hopes that Munoz will define a new path of success for senior men’s national team.
