Fernando Torres could be out of the Merseyside derby
Liverpool striker Fernando Torres could be out of the Merseyside derby due to a groin injury.
Torres limped off during the first-half of Liverpool's 2-1 defeat to Blackpool. He will now miss the international matches this weekend and is a big doubt for the game with Everton on 17 October.
"Fernando was assessed at Melwood [training ground] and underwent a scan. He will have intensive treatment over the next couple of weeks. But it is too early to say if he will be fit for the game against
Everton," said Liverpool head of sports medicine and science Peter Brukner.
This news will come as a huge blow to a struggling Liverpool team. Torres is a figure that the club is now looking towards to push the team up the Premier League table.
A massive blow
This is a massive blow to Liverpool because Torres is the best striker in the club. There are players like Steven Gerrard and Dirk Kuyt who can play in attack but neither have been more effective historically
than the Spaniard.
The injury news does not help the morale of everyone at the club. Liverpool is in a bad situation inside the relegation places of the Premier League. The pre-season optimism has gone and the club now has
a real fight to survive.
Torres is also one of the more creative players at the club. Even when he's not playing well himself, he still has the ability to create chances and bring other players into a game. This is something Liverpool
will miss badly.
"It happened early in the game [against Blackpool], which came as a surprise to us. I don't know if it happened when he stretched for the ball. I don't really know," added Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson.
Betting advice
Bet with confidence that Liverpool is going to stay in the Premier League. The club has too much quality across the squad to suffer at the bottom of the table for too long. Hodgson also has enough experience
to get the club out of trouble.
