Chelsea striker Fernando Torres revealed that while the last season had been his worst in the English Premier League, he had no regrets about moving to Stamford Bridge.
The 27-year-old Spaniard transferred to Chelsea from Liverpool on the deadline day of the January transfer window for a record breaking fee of £50 million.
Despite the astronomical transfer fee, he failed to live up to the hype created about his transfer to Stamford Bridge and proved to be a flop for the London side.
However, Torres remained hopeful about the upcoming season and his side’s chances of reclaiming the English Premier League title from Manchester United.
The Blues suffered a mid-season slump because of which they failed to retain the Premier League crown and the FA Cup, finishing second place on the table.
Their only achievement was their ability to guarantee a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League, which had seemed impossible at one point in the season.
Torres admitted last season had been horrible for him, having made 18 appearances in the Premier League and the Champions League, scoring just one goal.
Torres said while speaking to reporters:
“For me the past season was the worst since I arrived in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749.
So I prefer to forget what happened. But I am not sorry I signed for Chelsea. I am convinced that when the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 machine is at its full rhythm we will be very difficult to beat.”
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 international said he was certain the Blues would improve next season, with an ample supply of goals.
The former Liverpool forward revealed his form had been affected by the injury he had picked up during the World Cup.
He admitted he had been out of form, which had affected his performance for the Blues, the Spaniard revealed:
“The injury I sustained at the end the World Cup damaged my performance and made things more complicated than at any time in my career.
Twelve goals in all in a season is nothing for me. Never during the season did I play to 100 per cent, neither for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 or Chelsea.”
Before making a move to Chelsea, Torres made 26 appearances for the Reds, scoring nine goals – definitely not his best.
He has recovered though, putting a brilliant display for Spain in the 2012 Euro qualifiers and he said he hoped to do the same for Chelsea next season.
Torres admitted he missed Anfield and the Liverpool supporters but revealed he was now focused on Chelsea.
He said his main aim was to help the Blues challenge Premier League defending champions Manchester United for the title.
Torres joined Liverpool from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2007 for a fee of £20 million, including Luis Garcia’s exchange move to the La Liga side.
Despite his inconsistent performances, Torres was undoubtedly one of the favourites at Anfield since his arrival at the club.
