Fernando Torres gets his own personal fitness trainer; bloody favouritism
Recent reports reveal that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ivan-c17215 Ortega, the same man who served as Torres’ personal trainer
at Liverpool.
Ortega worked with the 27-year-old after he sustained an injury during the 2010 World Cup, helping him to return to full fitness. He has been summoned by Chelsea now, so that he can once again ensure Torres does not suffer from fitness issues.
This just goes to show the importance that is being given to Fernando Torres as compared to the other players at Stamford Bridge. Torres cost Roman Abramovich an astronomical £50 million to bring in the January transfer window from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809.
However, since his arrival he has failed to live up to the expectations his high transfer fee placed on him. The Spaniard only found the back of the net once, against West Ham United in the English Premier League, which makes him one of the top flops for
the Blues.
However, the appointment of Villas-Boas sees a renewed effort of trying to establish Torres as the first choice striker, replacing Didier Drogba. To do that, the Portuguese manager has to ensure Torres remains fit and finds his goal scoring form once again.
This is why the player has been awarded a fitness trainer, who will cater to only him and make sure he is prepared for the upcoming season. The special treatment http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 is receiving will not help things with the rest of the squad.
The 25-year-old Ivory Coast international http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Salomon-Kalou-c32266 was noticeably not pleased with the arrival of Torres and made it very clear. Kalou claimed there was no room in the squad for players who were constantly “pouting and sulking”, a not so subtle jab
at misfiring Torres.
Villas-Boas certainly does not share the same views as Kalou and made that perfectly clear while speaking to reporters. The Portuguese manager said he was willing to work with Torres, like he had done so with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186.
It was Villas-Boas who transformed Falcao into one of the most exciting strikers in Europe during his one season with the Portuguese giants. Falcao found the back of the net 39 times in 42 appearances for FC Porto in all competitions last season.
It was also Falcao who found the back of the net in the UEFA Europa League final against Braga, to award Porto a 1-0 victory. The victory gave Andre Villas-Boas four impressive trophies, including the achievement of being the youngest ever manager to win
the Europa League.
Villas Boas said in his first press conference as the Chelsea manager:
“We faced this question last year at Porto with a striker of the quality of Falcao. He was a striker who didn't find the back of the net in pre-season and was frustrated.
We didn't tune the team to provide to him. We tuned the team as a whole. Once we did that, he scored 30 goals in a season, 60 in two seasons.
It's about fine-tuning the team, not the player.”
Torres’ fine tuning begins with a personal fitness trainer and a team looking to be shaped around the Spaniard. However, it seems Villas-Boas is not taking any chances as he looks to be keeping http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 for another season in case Torres fails to find
his goal-scoring form.
