Fernando Torres looking forward to Juan Mata and Daniel Sturridge’s impact on Chelsea
Chelsea striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 international joined the London club in the January transfer window of the 2010-2011
season from Liverpool for a record breaking fee of £50 million, but in 21 appearances in all competitions has just scored one goal.
The Spaniard felt his lack of goals was not entirely his fault and that the rest of the team was also partially responsible. Torres revealed that the older players in the squad did not possess the pace required, which had significantly hampered his progress.
However, he was hopeful that the arrival of fellow Spaniard, Mata, would help him return to his goal scoring ways.
After being dropped from the national team, Torres was warned by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 boss Andre Villas-Boas that he was at a risk of losing his place in the first team at Stamford Bridge if he didn’t improve. The Portuguese manager has other strikers at his disposal,
with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Romelu-Lukaku-c31672 all trying for a place in the first-team.
Torres admitted he had expected the move from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 to Chelsea to be tough and knew that it would take him time to adjust to his new club. However, he revealed his adjustment had taken longer than he had expected and was now hoping to improve his form
sooner than later. He strongly believed the inclusion of Mata and Sturridge in the team would help his form.
Torres said in an interview:
“It's normal that it takes some time; it's not easy to find midfielders because the best are already in the best teams and that's why I said that the arrival of Mata is going to give another pace to the team.”
He continued:
“It's a great signing. I'm sure he's going to be a very important player for the club.”
Along with Mata, who scored on his debut against West Bromwich Albion before the international break, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-Sturridge-c10076 is another player who could go on to become a regular at the club. The 22-year-old English striker spent the latter half of last season
at Bolton Wanderers and in 12 appearances managed to score 8 goals. Since returning to Chelsea he has continued with his top form and Torres said he was pleasantly surprised by Sturridge.
Torres added:
“http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Sturridge, who has been ruled out for some matches, is also an incredible player, maybe the one that surprised me the most since I came here.”
The former Liverpool striker promised the Chelsea supporters more pace in the upcoming matches, claiming he did not expect his side to succeed if they did not step things up. Torres praised Andre Villas-Boas, who has made some significant changes to the
club after taking over from Carlo Ancelotti in the summer transfer window. He felt the arrival of young players in the transfer window showed the desire to grow, which was wonderful for a club.
