Fernando Torres not the reason of scrappy start: Daniel Agger
Liverpool defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707’s lack of form was not the reason behind Liverpool’s dismal start of the season.
Liverpool, under the management of Roy Hodgson, were in the lower half of the 2010-11 Premier League table and were even forced to fight a relegation battle in the opening ten fixtures. That led to Hodgson being shown the door by the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 hierarchy
and Kenny Dalglish took the hot seat at Anfield.
Agger believed that the entire locker room lacked the will to fight and had lost confidence in themselves. All the players were performing below par and it is unjust to make Fernando Torres the major reason behind the slump in form.
The Spanish striker secured a record-breaking 50-million-pound move to Premier League Champions Chelsea in January 2011. However, Liverpool did not miss his services much in the game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 recently as they beat the Blues in their own backyard in
nearly seven years.
“Why has Torres been so poor? That is a big question isn't it? How to explain that. But look at the team. We played awful and he is a part of the team so, when everything is playing well, normally he plays a lot better,” stated the Danish defender.
However, Agger had full faith in the ability of new signings Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez, who would replace the striker at Anfield. Suarez has already made his dream debut in a red shirt, when he scored the second goal of their 2-0 win over Stoke City in
January. However, Carroll still has to wait to prove his worth as he is currently out of action owing to a calf concern.
Agger was of the opinion that all the big names in Liverpool have to perform on a regular basis to cover up for the slump of form of younger players. The likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jamie-Carragher-c17728 have to take it upon themselves to help Liverpool
achieve their cause, even if other players are in a different state of mind.
“That is how it should be. Even here with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Denmark-c2884 there are some players who have to take bigger responsibility. It is the same in all walks of life. That is how things are. It is the same in football. We are not that difference,” stated the Danish defender.
Agger now believes that the huge gap left by Torres’ transfer needs to be filled by one or both of the new signings. Both Carroll and Suarez need to keep scoring in order to keep Liverpool’s momentum going. The side has managed four back-to-back wins since
the arrival of Kenny Dalglish and are currently placed sixth in the Premier League.
