Fernando Torres praises Andre Villas-Boas as Chelsea look prepared for the new season
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 revealed the Blues were prepared for the upcoming English Premier League season after their highly successful pre-season tour of Asia. The 27-year-old was confident the London side’s Premier League rivals would have
something to look out for as the new campaign approached.
Chelsea managed to win all of their fixtures in pre-season, all the while maintaining a clean sheet. A highly impressive feat considering the fact that they went up against all sorts of team; from Wycombe Wanderers, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Malaysia-c2949 XI and Aston Villa. Chelsea faced
Aston Villa in the final of the Barclays Asia Trophy, which they won 2-0.
While Torres did not make too much of an impact in the earlier fixture of the pre-season matches, the Spaniard scored the second goal in the clash against Aston Villa. Torres was brought on in the substitute and the former Liverpool striker managed to score
on his first touch, adding to Josh McEachran’s early goal to give his side the much deserved two goal win.
Torres revealed the Blues had returned to full fitness during the tour and were well prepared for the start of the new season. The first fixture of the English Premier League season 2011-2012 is scheduled to kick off on August 13th and according
to the 27-year-old the new Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas had done well to train the squad for the new season.
Torres said while speaking to reporters:
“Our fitness is very good, we have won all the games we have played and it is only two weeks until the start of the season.
The manager has given minutes to everyone and everyone feels they are part of the team. That is important.”
Torres arrived at Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 on a record breaking fee of £50 million. Unfortunately for the player and Chelsea, he failed to make an instant impact and was criticized for his inability to find the back of
the net. He made a total of 18 appearances in the domestic league and the UEFA Champions League but only managed to score one goal.
However, he has shown considerable improvement in pre-season, which he insisted would carry forward to the new season. Torres praised the young Portuguese manager and his rotation policy, which has done well to get the best out of everyone at the club, and
credited him with his and the squad’s top form.
The Spaniard continued:
“When you have players with quality and players who can play in different positions, you are able to use different formations.
That is good because depending on the opposition and the score line, you have to change the system.
It is very good news as it is working very well.”
