Fernando Torres set for emotional game against Liverpool
Following the biggest transfer fee in British football history, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707, has linked up with his new team and will be wearing the number nine jersey for Chelsea, but at what cost?
We are not referring to the cost for Russian oil magnate, Roman Abramovich. After all, the oil industry is booming and the £50 million spent to acquire the services of Torres can be covered within weeks. I am referring to the prospects facing the Spaniard
himself.
Torres will be making his debut for Chelsea against his former club before a 42,000 strong crowd at Stamford Bridge. He should be thankful that it’s not Anfield, otherwise, he was in for a rough ride to say the least.
From the time Torres comes onto the pitch, it is inevitable the striker will be the subject of ferocious jeers from every Liverpool fan present inside Stamford Bridge.
Torres comments after signing for Chelsea haven’t gone down well with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 supporters. He took a jibe against his former team by insisting he will be playing at the level he should be, after his decision to join one of the bigger teams, clearly demeaning
his former club.
The Anfield faithful duly responded by publicly setting Torres' jersey on fire, perhaps a sign of what the Spanish international can expect at Anfield.
In effect, not only has Torres played with fire by jumping ship to join rivals http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, he will also be under unprecedented pressure to live up to great expectations from his expensive new outfit.
Carlo Ancelotti has added pressure of delivering a big trophy after a deadline day bonanza and he will be pinning his hopes on the shoulders of the Spanish forward, and would be expecting the striker to follow through on his task.
It is anyone's guess how the events will unfold in tomorrow's clash between the two clubs. Nonetheless, one thing is for certain, Torres will be walking alone, at least from now onwards.
