Fernando Torres; the saviour of Kop as Everton’s derby encounter draws nearer
Finally there is some good news flowing at Anfield after what seems to be a change of ownership of Liverpool FC. Though the American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett have filed a case in the Texas court it is likely to be overruled
just like the last injunction they handed in the English courts.
Now with the matters at the Red part of Merseyside stabilizing, players are more confident about their future with the club. While loyal of the Kop will be missing some of their main players, they will also be happy with the comeback
of their old.
It has been confirmed that the favourite son of Anfield, world class Spanish striker Fernando Torres is expected to be in the starting lineup of Reds. As the Merseyside derby draws nearer the best men from both teams are being
lined up in a fierce battle that will prove more than who is the best team from the Merseyside.
At the moment Liverpool are in the relegation zone being at 18th
place while Everton have the lead of a single point resulting in the 17th
position. This is exactly why Liverpool will need their top gun when take a trip across town from Stanley Park to Goodison Park.
Earlier Torres fell victim to a groin injury in which he strained his adductor muscles and that concluded with him being out of action for around three weeks. Due to this he was also unavailable when Spain called him for international
duty in the Euro 2012 qualifiers.
The injury occurred in the early moments of Liverpool’s last game at Anfield where they faced Blackpool. The match took Liverpool a step ahead in their dismissive performance giving their arch rivals Manchester United another reason
to laugh at them.
Though defending champions Chelsea lead the table and are in a very strong position to win the league, United is still breathing down their necks waiting for them to slip and attack them from the 3rd
position. If another Premier League trophy is brought to Anfield then this will break the joint record held by both Reds and Red Devils of 18 League titles.
The new manager at Liverpool Roy Hodgson is wary of this situation, but has admitted that with their current performance he cannont rule them as competitors for the title race. He has in fact admitted that the club is fighting
a relegation battle.
The former Fulham manager is trying to juggle financial and injury problems at the moment. Though the sale of Liverpool has helped him with the first cause but he cannot do much about the second one as it seems inevitable travelling
to Blue part of Merseyside with a lighter bus.
The club has increased their performance with players they have at the moment and that will mean desperate replacements from their reserves as they are out of left backs and attacking midfielders. They were always deficient in
strikers so the responsibility on the midfield and therefore their coveted skipper Steven Gerrard has increased tenfold.
Reds will also be without their Dutch super star Dirk Kuyt who is out injured again after the Euro 2012 qualification match against Sweden. After the injury on Tuesday he has been sent off for medical care. The medical team has
announced that the player will be out of action for around a month.
In a press release Hodgson informed on the club’s position of their left back and striker, “Konchesky has made a good recovery as has Fernando Torres so all being well we can welcome those two back. Fernando's season needs to kick-start,
he's been hampered a bit by injuries and what happened at the World Cup.”
He expressed that they had been disappointingly unlucky this season but he hoped that the team will reform after the sale of club, “We see a livelier and a better Fernando every day. It was really unfortunate he got that injury
against Blackpool but luckily it came in the international break so he won't miss any more league games for us.” He added, “We get two good ones back, but lose a good one in Kuyt.”
