Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has revealed he has decided to remain at Stamford Bridge after talks with owner Roman Abramovich.
After Chelsea’s surprisingly fantastic season, in which they won the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 was selected in Spain’s squad for the European Championships. While he has no qualms with country, the striker had a few issues with
club.
Torres was not happy with his treatment by the club in the UEFA Champions League final. Not only was the Spain international not selected in the starting XI, he was also not selected to take a penalty in the penalty shoot-out, which the Blues eventually
went on to win 4-3.
Torres said while speaking to reporters:
“I had a conversation with the owner of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and he trusts me. His confidence is total and that is what I needed to keep fighting and continue to be essential for the team.”
According to Torres, his discussion with Abramovich regarding his future at Chelsea had helped. He was now certain that he had a future with the club and would go on to work hard for next season, after the Euro 2012, of course.
The 28-year-old did not feel he had been called up because of the injury problems the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 team was currently facing. He believed he had been selected because of the fact that he had gone on to win the FA Cup and the Champions League with the Blues.
He revealed:
“I can't stop the debate. I think all of us are here on merit.
I come with the FA Cup and the Champions League. I think the end of the season was not bad.”
However, Torres did admit the absence of the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Villa-c10629 would take its toll on the squad as they prepared for the European Championships.
The Spaniard continued:
“Puyol is a leader on and off the field. He always had something to say to the dressing room and had a lot of experience.
(Missing) Villa also is a very important low. We will try to make his absence noticed as little as possible.”
