Former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he believes the departure of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 from Stamford Bridge would benefit Fernando Torres.
It was under the reign of Ancelotti that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 in the winter transfer window. While the move made headlines, the Spaniard failed to live up to expectations.
The situation that developed under the Italian manager now continues under new manager Andre Villas-Boas; the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 international has not managed to find the back of the net for the Blues since mid-October and has been struggling to form a successful partnership
with the rest of the squad.
One of the main reasons Ancelotti was sacked at the end of last season was the fact that he failed to deliver silverware with an amazing team at his disposal. Unfortunately for the London side, the state of affairs remains unchanged under Villas-Boas.
While Ancelotti did not wish to criticize his younger replacement, the former AC Milan boss felt there were changes the Portuguese could make to ensure success this season. He urged Villas-Boas to consider the possibility of selling Drogba to give Torres
a fair chance of proving himself at the club.
Ancelotti said while speaking to reporters:
“I don't judge the work of a colleague. What I would say is training Chelsea, when the club is in the middle of a major generational change, is complicated.
Take Torres and the crisis he has lived through there. I now know if you decide to invest strongly in him, you have to sell Drogba.”
The Italian boss was full of praise of the 33-year-old striker but believed he did not give competition a chance to flourish. It was for this reason, his similarities of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Filippo-Inzaghi-c13777 that Drogba had to leave Chelsea so that Torres could go on to prove
himself and once again become a successful striker as he had been at Liverpool.
He revealed:
Didier is like Filippo Inzaghi was at AC Milan. He simply devours any competition.
It's not that he's evil - nor was Inzaghi - it's just the way they are.”
