Fernando Torres wants Liverpool to replicate Chelsea performance against less-illustrious opponents
Liverpool striker Fernando Torres declared his joy at his side’s excellent win over reigning Premier League champions Chelsea on Sunday, but insists the team need to replicate their superb
performance against the lesser sides, instead of pulling out all the stops only for the league’s bigger teams.
“I am really happy with the victory – just like all the fans. It was a good result and a great performance from the team. It was a day we have to enjoy but we now have a game coming up
in a few days and we have to be focused on that. We always play like this against the top teams. When we play Man United, Arsenal or Chelsea we often produce a great performance, but now we have to do the same against the teams in the middle of the table.
If we do that we will be fighting for big things at the end of the season,” the Spaniard told the club’s official website.
The former Atletico Madrid man does seem to have a point. When Liverpool come up against the more illustrious opponents the Premier League has to offer, they certainly up their game –
especially when playing at Anfield. With the backing of their home crowd, the tempo and pace of their play is in stark contrast to say their 0-0 draw at Birmingham earlier in the season, and even their 1-0 win at Bolton last week. Having said that, the Merseysiders
are slowly climbing the table following their disastrous start to the season, and Torres is hopeful it can continue.
“We've won four games in a row now. This is what we have to be doing more regularly because this is what Liverpool is all about. We are now moving in the right direction,” he declared.
