http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809’s star striker Fernando Torres has reportedly confirmed that he wants to leave the club in the 2011 January transfer window.
The striker's decision comes in the wake of Chelsea's audacious 40-million-pound bid for the player.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 have been looking to reignite their campaign by bringing in some new blood to Stamford Bridge, and it looks like the Blues will spare no expense in their bid to retain the Barclays Premier League title in the 2010-11 season. Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich
has authorised the multi-million-pound move for Torres, and should Liverpool reject the current bid, Chelsea will reportedly offer an even higher sum for the player’s services.
Although the Reds have rejected the 40-million-pound bid, the Spaniard is seriously considering Chelsea’s offer, saying that he wants to leave Liverpool to join the Blues. According to reports, the former Atletico Madrid player has told club officials that
he does not want to remain at Anfield.
A Liverpool source said, “Unfortunately Fernando (Torres) has decided he wants to leave Liverpool. It is a very sad day for all of us, but now we have to wait and see what the club decides. It is clear this is the last thing (Liverpool manager) Kenny Dalglish
expected although it has been clear for some time that Torres' patience has run out.”
Undoubtedly, manager Kenny Dalglish will be shocked by the striker’s decision, especially since things seemed to be turning around for the club after their dreadful start to the campaign. The Reds have also finalised the deal to bring Luis Suarez to Anfield,
presumably to pair him up with Torres at the front to form a deadly strike partnership. However, with Torres’ recent decision to leave, Dalglish’s plans are rapidly starting to unravel.
It seems extremely unlikely that Liverpool’s new owners will let their star striker go, regardless of how much money Chelsea are willing to offer. With the transfer window set to close on Monday 31 January, it looks like the Blues do not have enough time
to finalise a deal for the World Cup winning striker. We will find out more on the story in the coming days.
