Fernando Verdasco considers Perth as the favourite warm-up for the Australian Open – Tennis News
Tennis playboy, Fernando Verdasco, is scheduled to represent Spain at the Hopman Cup 2013. He will team up with Anabel Medina Garrigues to feature in the warm-up event before the Australian Open. Talking to the official website
reporters, the 29-year-old Spaniard stated “Perth has similar conditions to the Australian Open, full house stadium and team competition; that´s all I need.”
Commenting about playing with Garrigues, he stated, “She is talented, relax on and off the court and always ready to help. I love to play with her when the tie is 1-1.” It seems like the duo has worked together at the practice
courts and has devised a plan to tackle the potential onslaught of the rivals at Perth.
The next edition of the Hopman Cup will take place at the brand new arena of Perth and Verdasco was pleased to be a part of such a prestigious event, especially at the opening ceremony of the Arena. The duo from Spain reached the
semi-finals of the event in the last edition which was a sign of their co-ordination. The 24th ranked Spaniard stated that there were no secrets to their success; just a strong friendship, respect and hard work were the basis of their success.
Verdasco plans on visiting the tourists’ spots at Perth in 2013. Talking about that, he said, “I need to find a Perth native to show me all the city secrets I guess that´s the best way to discover Perth.” Garrigues is ranked 50th
in the Women Tennis Association world rankings. At the age of 30, she is still quite fluent with her forehand and backhands especially at the clay courts but her performance in the latest edition of the Hopman Cup showed her class at the hard courts as well.
The team of Verdasco and Garrigues is seeded fourth in the tournament. Serbian representatives, Novak Djokovic and Ana Ivanovic are the top seeds in the tournament. The 25-year-old Djokovic is enjoying the reign as the number one
player in the world whilst his partner has already accomplished the goal of ruling the world rankings in 2008.
